EARBY ace Stephen Hipgrave made a winning debut in the Lancashire Over 50s team as they maintained their 100 per cent start to the ECB50 County Championship.

Hipgrave, a proud Yorkshireman, received his first call-up to the county veteran team for the game with Durham at Formby.

And he claimed 2-24 on debut – but was overshadowed by fellow locals Mike Ingham and Bill Slinger.

Haslingden’s Ingham made 73 as Lancashire posted 258-5 from their 45 overs before Slinger claimed 6-17 as Durham were skittled for 133.

That made it two wins on the spin after Ingham was involved in a record breaking day against Cumbria at Appleby.

The Lancashire League’s all-time leading run scorer made 112 not out but even he was overshadowed by Geoff Bullock, who smashed 211.

The pair shared an opening stand of 299 as Lancashire posted 370-3 from 45 overs before Cumbria closed on 158-4.

Lancashire are back in action on Wednesday when they make the trip to Nottinghamshire.
