LAST weekend’s Jack Neal Memorial Rally, run by Clitheroe and District Motor Club in Lincolnshire, was won by Geoff Roberts and Richard Williams in a Ford Escort Mk2.
The event was marred by a massive accident when Phil and Mick Gallagher’s MG Metro 6R4 barrel rolled after a racing incident involving the Subaru Impreza of Ian Tiffany and Graham White.
Fortunately both crew members escaped unhurt but the car went no further after extensive damage.
Accrington duo Hazel Johnson and David Barratt survived a huge spin to finish 30th overall, fifth in the F1000 class, in a Nissan Micra.
The Jack Neal Memorial Junior Rally ran in tandem with the main event and rally debutant, 14-year-old Jack Foster from Accrington, finished 11th overall in another Nissan Micra.
Foster was co-driven by World Rally Championship co-driver Daniel Barritt, from Barnoldswick, who said: “He did really well and set some good times.
“It’s great experience for young drivers to be able to do proper rallies at 14 years old.”
Foster, who attends Rhyddings School in Oswaldtwistle, improved his stage times throughout the day and didn’t put so much as a scratch on the car, but his rallying is now on hold as exams take priority.
