GEORGE Drinkwater picked up another impressive scalp as he underlined his status as the best fighter at his age group in the country.
The 14-year-old Roche Boxing Club fighter, who won the Golden Gloves title in March, defeated the dangerous and previously unbeaten Billy Polkingham.
The Southend fighter has just returned from a successful spell in American and came to the Byerden House Social Club show in Burnley on the back of 12 straight wins.
But Drinkwater was in irresistible form and showed just why he is British champion as he stretched his winning run to 16 fighters.
The Burnley teenager is now preparing to represent England in the Tri Nations in Cardiff in July.
It was a busy night for the Burnley club with mixed success for Brian Roche’s young fighters.
North West champion Uwais Majeed was in fine form to beat George Davis from Southend but fellow NW title holder Sean Hughes suffered a rare defeat, losing to Dillon Mannion from Bridgewater Salford.
There were also wins for William Henson, Billy Grogan, Aaron Hayden, Adil Hussain, Atif Mustaq and Anthony Tibbs.
But Nicky Perry, Mohammed Younis, Mark Haworth and Dean Thompson all ended up losing.
