LANCASHIRE will hope to secure a three-day victory over Hampshire in the County Championship after Kyle Hogg took 7 for 28 to decimate the hosts yesterday.
Lancashire posted a total of 328 on the opening day at the Rose Bowl but Hampshire had to follow on after being bowled out for just 133 yesterday, and remain 32 runs behind with only five wickets remaining in their second innings.
Hogg claimed his first wicket of the first innings early yesterday morning as opener Benny Howell was caught by Gareth Cross for a duck.
James Adams and Johann Myburgh then guided Hampshire to 56 for 1 but Oliver Newby swiftly removed them both before Hogg dismissed Neil McKenzie, caught by wicket-keeper Cross.
The home side were 98 for 4 at that point and were only able to add 35 more runs, with Hogg wiping out the middle order of James Vince, Dimitri Mascarenhas and Nic Pothas, as Cross took his tally of catches to five.
Hogg also dismissed former Lancashire man Dominic Cork and Danny Briggs – both lbw – to end with seven wickets, with Hampshire bowled out for 133 as Sajid Mahmood claimed the final wicket of Kabir Ali.
Trailing by 195 runs, the home team followed on but quickly slipped to 31 for 2 as Tom Smith and Newby claimed wickets.
Howell made 68 not out as Hampshire recovered to 163 for 5, despite three wickets from Mahmood, but Lancashire will be keen to secure a swift victory today.
