DAVID Dunn insists it is time to draw a line under the past after admitting ‘I can’t wait for next season to start’.
The Ewood Park favourite described the last campaign as “difficult” but believes Blackburn Rovers’ new owners will ensure a better future for the club.
Poultry giants Venky’s have endured a real baptism of fire ever since buying FROM BACK PAGE the club back in November, having attracted criticism from the footballing world and the club’s own supporters for a number of their decisions.
Now, after securing their Premier League status at Wolves on Sunday, midfielder Dunn believes a turbulent start to 2011 needs to be forgotten as Rovers look to build on what they already have.
He said: “We had a meeting with the owners on the Saturday night before the Wolves game. I think they seem really good people and really want to have a good go at it and I am sure they will.
“We didn’t touch upon what is going to happen in the summer because that is up to the staff and the manager. They seem very genuine people and want us to do well.
“As a Blackburn lad, I know there were not too many people queuing up to buy us so I think we have to give them a lot of respect and credit for buying it.
“I’m sure someone doesn’t buy a football club to not push on and do something. They are obviously very good business people and will want us to kick on now.
“We have had a difficult season from change of manager, change of owners, we have had ups and downs all the way. But I think next year we can have a good pre season and I am sure we will kick on next season.
“It is time to draw a line under all the rubbish that has happened. We are really looking forward to next season. It is not many times I say that but, after what has gone on, I am really looking forward to next season.”
With the likes of Phil Jones, Martin Olsson, Junior Hoilett and Grant Hanley coming through the youth ranks to establish themselves as first team players this season, Rovers fans are understandably excited about the potential.
And, as long as the club can ward off the inevitable interest for their top stars, Dunn is confident there is a lot to look forward to.
He said: “I think if we can keep this group together we can look forward to good times. The lads who played on Sunday looked so athletic and we really did boss it for about 70 minutes.
“The fans were amazing. There has been a bit of an unsettling times at Ewood Park this year but the lads who come away from home, support us all the way and today showed that.
“I am sure they have had every right to show their concerns at times but I think the new manager and new owners are signing off the same hymn sheet and I think we will be alright. I think it will be exciting times for us.”
