AN East Lancs student has picked up a national award for his footballing ability.
Louis Cross, a pupil at Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School, has been named the Independent Schools FA under 16s player of the year.
The 16-year-old. who is on the books at Blackpool Football Club, picked up the award – not just for his ability on the pitch but for his conduct off it as well.
Michael Hindle, master in charge of First XI football at QEGS, said: “We are delighted that Louis has won the ISFA Under 16s player of the year award as the outstanding footballer nationally through all independent schools for his age group.
“The award is not only based on his performances on the field but also for attitude and approach on and off the field.”
Cross also plays for Lancashire, alongside fellow QEGS pupil Danny Birchall. The pair were a part of the Lancashire team that recently lost to Northumberland in the Northern Counties Schools FA U16s finals on penalties at Turf Moor.
Meanwhile, another QEGS pupil has been starring in sport – this time Athletics.
Luke Penswick won the U15s 800m at the Lancashire Club Athletics Championships at Stanley Park, Blackburn in a time of 2mins 07.06 secs. Luke is a member of Preston Harriers.
