I MUST admit I don't know much about Shabani Nonda - who Rovers signed on loan before last night's transfer deadline.

After bringing in three strikers this summer - Benni McCarthy, Jason Roberts and Francis Jeffers - I'm a bit surprised that Mark Hughes has added another.

After reading that Ryan Nelsen could be out injured for longer than expected, I thought we'd go out to provide a bit more cover and sign a centre-half.

But if Nonda can score goals, then that's what we need at Blackburn right now.

We've only scored one goal so far in the Premiership.

I know it's early days and we've only played three games, but it can get a bit worrying if we are not putting the ball in the net.

If Mark Hughes thinks Nonda is the man to score the goals, then it's a good move.

I've heard Nonda has had injury problems in the past.

That's a little worry, but then the same could be said about Benni McCarthy.

At the end of the day, it's only a loan deal until the end of the season.

He's another unknown quantity for Premiership defenders and could spring a few surprises.

Hopefully, that will happen.

I'm delighted Lucas Neill is staying at Ewood Park for the forseeable future.

There was talk the Australian would be making a late move to Liverpool.

Had Neill moved to Anfield for a big fee, it would have been a good bit of business because we bought him for £1million five years ago.

But Neill's a great player and it would have been a huge loss had he gone.

He's definitely been Blackburn's most outstanding defender for the last couple of seasons.

He is Mr Consistency and I'm sure Rovers fans don't want to see him go.

He can play anywhere across the back four and is always looking to press forward and attack.

He's a no-nonsense defender.

He plays the game the way it used to be - a proper, old-fashioned player who gets stuck in.

But he's also got a lot of ability on the ball.

Obviously, he's 28 and this is a big stage in his career.

He is looking to play Champions League football after playing well for Australia in the World Cup this summer.

Who knows whether Rafael Benitez comes back for him in the January transfer window.

But while he's at Rovers, he will continue giving 100 percent.

Once he crosses the white line, Neill only thinks about giving his all.
