TODMORDEN ended the Worsley Cup dreams of Accrington yesterday as they beat the rain to march into round two.

Batting first after being put in to bat, Accrington struggled and were skittled for just 108 in 40.3 overs with only Ashar Zaidi (24), Simon Hanson (18), Liam Brankin (14), Jimmy Hayhurst (13) and Stuart Crabtree (10) making double figures as Stevie Barker, Qaiser Abbas and skipper Andrew Sutcliffe each claimed three wickets.

Nick Barker led the way home for Todmorden with 33 not out, while Abbas also chipped in with 27.

The heavy overnight rain meant the game between Bacup and Rishton was called off early at Lanehead, while holders Colne and Lowerhouse also saw their tie at The Horsfield fall victim to the weather.

The eagerly anticipated tie between East Lancashire and last year’s beaten finalists and current league leaders Ramsbottom was also called off without a ball being bowled at a sodden Alexandra Meadows.

Haslingden’s tie with Burnley was also called off, while Nelson and Rawtenstall also could not start.

Despite plenty of mopping up at Seedhill muddy patches either side of the wicket rendered conditions unsafe. The five games will now be played next Saturday with the second round draw to follow.
