MICHEL Salgado admits the pressure is on after claiming Rovers’ trip to Molineux tomorrow could prove a turning point in the club’s history.

The double European Champions League winner and four times La Liga champion admits he has never felt pressure like that facing Blackburn Rovers tomorrow – but is confident survival will spark a bright future.

Rovers know victory at relegation rivals Wolves will secure their Premier League survival, with any other result leaving them anxiously looking at results elsewhere to determine their fate.

The former Real Madrid defender, said: “I think it could be a turning point for this club. If we are safe, the new owners have big expectations, money coming in. It's the right moment to be safe. We are making changes and it's the right moment to try and build up something good.

"If you get relegated, then everything is going down. It's a vital game for us. We have to realise about that, the club the same. I hope we can do it because I have big expectations for the future of this club, not only because of the money, but because of the young players coming through.

“It's fantastic to see the likes of Martin Olsson, Junior Hoilett, so I think there is a great future for this team, but first of all we have to be safe."

The 35-year-old is no stranger to the big occasion having spent 10 years at Real Madrid but he admits Rovers’ relegation dogfight has brought a new sense of pressure.

“It is not the same pressure to be involved in a final or a race for the title,” he said. “This is different, it is a race for survival and it is an experience and a new challenge for me.

“I am looking forward to trying to be safe. At this club we have had changes and we now have to be safe not only for the club but for the owners. This is a big game for the future of the club.

“The pressure is different than if you were going for a title. If you lose that or a final it is a bad thing but not the same. You just lose a title and you can forget that.

“If you get relegated there is no time to forget that. This is very important for the future of the club and the fans and the pressure is big.”

Salgado also believes Rovers lost their focus earlier this season and blames their recent struggles on everyone’s lofty ambitions.

He said: "I think all of us, including the Press, including players, including the staff, I think we made mistakes talking about the dreams of the future.

"We didn't realise there were three months to go so when you're not focused on this league, especially this year which was the tightest Premier League I've ever seen, so if you are not focused on every game, when you lose games, you lose confidence and then you get involved in this situation.

"That was the one mistake for us to talk about all the stars like Ronaldinho, Beckham, and we didn't realise we had to come back down to earth because we are involved in the best league, the most demanding league in the world. So it was a big mistake so I'm not going to talk about any player until we are safe and frankly if we are safe, we have to sign really good players for the team."
