THE race for the SponsorBank Lancashire League title is still wide open after Ramsbottom beat leaders Bacup by 48 runs yesterday.

Champions Lowerhouse moved into second place - five points behind Bacup - after beating Burnley.

Lowerhouse's Charlie Cottam and Chris Bleazard top scored with 43 each - Cottam's knock taking him past the 500-run mark for the first time.

Opener Phil Hayes was the hero for Ramsbottom as he missed out on a century by just one run.

On Saturday, Burnley's win over Accrington temporarily installed them as the main challengers to Bacup.

While Bacup were beating Church, Burnley stuttered to a win at Thorneyholme Road.

Jonathan Clare took five wickets as Accrington were skittled for 71.

But Burnley made hard work of their reply bit got home with seven wickets down.

But former leaders Ramsbottom's title charge took a hammering as they were beaten by Todmorden.

Mo Bux took 5-20 as Ramsbottom were skittled for 134 and Todmorden's new pro Lendl Simmons made 74 as his side got home for a five-wicket win.

Champions Lowerhouse are still in touch after they thumped Enfield by 138 runs.

Pro Ryan Harris (88) and Chris Bleazard's 64 helped Lowerhouse to 247-4.

Harris then did the business with the ball as he took 6-8 form 12.2 overs to help dismiss Enfield for 109.
