TWO pupils from Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School have been selected for the full Independent Schools FA tour to Scandinavia.
Oliver Birchall, 17, and 16-year-old Louis Cross will represent the ISFA U18s and U16s teams respectively.
The QEGS pair were part of the squads that flew out to Finland this week.
Both teams are scheduled to play three matches, starting in Helsinki with the second fixture for the U16s against the Finnish FA U16s team.
If all goes to plan Birchall, who is captain of the QEGS 1st XI and who represented the school at the recent opening by Gordon Taylor of the new sports facilities at the school’s Lammack playing fields, could earn an England ISFA cap against the Scottish ISFA team at The City Ground, home of Nottingham Forest FC, on May 1. Cross has already been identified as having a possible future career in football, as he is on the books of Ian Holloway’s Blackpool FC.
