BURNLEY assistant manager Dave Kevan insisted it was a point gained at Selhurst Park on Saturday and not three points lost.

But he conceded the players were disappointed after losing two goals to set-piece headers.

The Clarets bounced back from their first league defeat with a vengeance and produced a vintage display by completely outplaying Peter Taylor's promotion-chasing Eagles.

Their first 45 minutes were among the best they have played all season.

But somehow Palace not only grabbed a share of the spoils, they could've stolen all three points, but for the acrobatic saves from Brian Jensen at the end.

Kevan said: "We've started the game very well and settled into the game, looked comfortable certainly for 30 minutes and when the goal came I thought it was just what we deserved.

"On the whole it was a good effort and a good spectacle.

"We got into our stride very quickly and felt as tough on the back of our last two results and two performances we had something to prove to ourselves and our supporters what a good side we can be.

"Crystal Palace are a very good side and it was always going to be a difficult game. They showed a great deal of character and a great deal of determination and a great deal of quality."

"Obviously we would've liked to have weathered the pressure a little bit longer than we did but credit to the boys they bounced back straight away and it was nice to see young Kyle Lafferty getting a reward for all his hard work.

"As soon as you concede you fear the worst and especially so early in the second half, but we kicked back into gear and we took the game to them again, we got another goal and got back in front again.

"We feel as though we've got enough to deal with that type of attack and the changes that the manager made were to help that in bringing on two six-foot-plus players.

"We're disappointed to have conceded from an aerial threat.

"It's very much a point gained but the manner of the game and the fact that we've gone ahead twice is obviously a bit disappointing."

Kevan revealed defender John McGreal was forced off at the interval with injury.

He said: "John had a slight problem going into the game but felt comfortable enough with it but I think he tweaked it again in the first half."

And he said it was the perfect way to finish off a difficult week.

He added: "That's one defeat in five games and that's encouraging for any team this early in the season. But we've got to keep things in perspective. On the whole the lads have certainly responded well to the midweek defeat and they've approached all their football in the right frame.

"If they continue in the same way they have today then hopefully we can enjoy our season."
