EDDIE Howe said Burnley’s second half performance at Leicester City made for unpleasant viewing, after an early penalty proved to be the turning point in their 4-0 defeat.

The Clarets had started the second half brightly in response to going a goal down midway through the first half.

But soon after Andre Bikey tripped Diomansy Kamara just inside the box and Paul Gallagher scored the first of his two goals, Howe admitted he knew it was all over.

“At half-time I thought we were well in the game, but in the second half as soon as the second goal went in it was a tough afternoon for us after that,” he said.

“Leicester kept the ball pretty well and it became pretty hard to watch.

“I think they were by far the better team. Having said that I thought the first half was nip and tuck. I didn’t think there was a lot in it. From their point of view they scored a good goal.

“We tried to get back to getting balls into the box.

“At times, especially in the first half, I felt we looked a threat. But the stuffing was knocked out of us with the second goal and after that it was a tough afternoon.

“We didn’t react fantastically well as a team, a few heads dropped.

“We were beaten by the better team and we have to take it on the chin.”

But Howe wasn’t the only one to be frustrated by his team’s performance as Leicester City boss Sven-Goran Eriksson revealed he had mixed feelings about his side’s comfortable win.

“I am happy, but I am also angry,” said the former England manager, whose side had lost their previous two at home and had won only once in seven outings before Saturday.

“We have made silly mistakes sometimes and been too confident sometimes.

“Today, we were focused and concentrated. No mistakes. Top, top class.

“With the players we have and the team we have we should do it more often.”
