GRAHAM Alexander could become only the second outfield player in England to reach 1,000 career games tomorrow.

The 39-year-old is in line to hit the magical milestone in the crunch Championship clash at Nottingham Forest, after coming off the bench towards the end of Saturday’s 4-0 defeat at Leicester City.

Tony Ford, Alexander’s former Scunthorpe United team-mate, is the only other outfield player to achieve this feat.

And Burnley boss Eddie Howe paid tribute to his club captain following his 999th appearance.

“It’s a fantastic achievement for Graham. He’s a fantastic professional,” he said.

“He’s been and still is a fantastic player and I think he deserves to make this. Of course I’ve been conscious of it.

“He’s had an extremely good career, not just for Burnley but for other clubs as well.

“He certainly leads by example in training and everything he does and how he prepares and what time of professional he is, so it will be a tremendous achievement when he makes it.”
