BURNLEY face an uphill battle to get anything from this game after gifting Ipswich two first-half goals.
David Norris broke the deadlock from a corner that should have been dealt with in the 14th minute, then Connor Wickham doubled their advantage 10 minutes later with a downwards header that deceived the poorly positioned Lee Grant.
Burnley, with four changes to the starting line-up from the defeat at Bristol City, began with an improved tempo, but the wind was knocked out of their sails the second Norris scored.
Jimmy Bullard's corner was headed on by Gareth McAuley at the far right post, Brian Easton – in for the suspended Danny Fox – should have dealt with it, but the ball rolled for Norris to drill low past Grant.
Jason Scotland almost added a second soon after, but cleared the bar. However, Wickham's downwards header bounced up and dipped under it midway through the half, with Grant hopelessly stretching back.
Burnley were awarded a late free kick, but between Tyrone Mears and Chris Eagles they wasted an opportunity with an overly-ambitious routine.
