THERE will be no extra pressure on Wycombe to get their automatic promotion campaign back on track by beating Accrington Stanley tomorrow, says manager Gary Waddock.
Wanderers were leapfrogged by Rotherham in midweek after the Millers beat Stanley 2-0 to ensure Wycombe slipped out of the top three.
But despite back-to-back losses Waddock goes into the game in a positive frame of mind.
He said: “There’s no pressure at all. There’s other jobs out there that have got pressure on them but playing football matches in front of your home crowd with our position – that’s enjoyment.”
But he added: “It’s going to be a tough game. Because we’ve lost the last two we need to pick up something.”
Accrington boss John Coleman has targeted a play-off place for his side despite sitting in a lowly 19th and wants ten wins from their final 19 games.
Wanderers did the double over Stanley the last time they were in the same division in 2008-09, but have only beaten them once in five other previous appearances.
Waddock said: “They do pass it around, they have good players and the manager’s done an excellent job there on limited resources.”
Accy haven’t won in four games but Tuesday’s defeat was their first on the road in 2011 as they opened the year with wins at Morecambe and Cheltenham – having completed the whole of 2010 with just a solitary three points on the road.
On-loan defender Kevin Long is likely to be included after recovering from a broken toe and aside from the absent Leam Richardson Coleman has a fully-fit squad to pick from.
On the other hand Tuesday’s stand-in Blues skipper Matt Bloomfield, who scored in a 1-1 draw when the sides met back in September, misses out with a hamstring strain.
Chris Westwood has stepped up his recovery from a groin problem and could return, while Waddock will also be hoping Leon Johnson returns from the virus that kept him out of the squad for the Southend game.
Having made four changes for Tuesday’s 3-2 defeat Waddock said after the game: “We wanted to freshen it up today, which we did. I need to do it again on Saturday.”
