Blackburn rally driver Matt Griffin was in the prizes again last weekend as, together with co-driver Joe Cruttenden from Rochdale, he finished third in the 1400L Class on the Chepstow-based Team GMF Wyedean Forest Rally.

Griffin had planned to contest the event in a Nissan Micra but was forced to change plans and switch to a left-hand drive VW Polo only days before the event.

Griffin said: “Never having driven the car before driving it to the start line, it took some getting used to. I’ve never heard a co-driver say ‘Move over a bit’ so many times but we were the fastest in our class on the Mailscot stage and our confidence was improving as the day progressed.”   The next round of the BTRDA Rally series is the Cockermouth based Malcolm Wilson Rally on March 5 and Griffin plans to contest what is effectively his ‘home event’ in the eight round championship.   “I should know by the end of this week which car we will be using.  I would prefer something right-hand drive but if the Polo is the only option I will go with that,” he said.
