NEWLY crowned queen of British squash Laura Massaro is already looking forward to next year – just so she can see her face on the promotional posters for the 2012 National Championships.

The 27-year-old says the privilege of being the face of the flagship tournament means just as much as the honour of winning the British National Championships in Manchester on Sunday, and she smiled: “Does this mean I’ll be on the poster next year? That’s maybe the best thing about winning it.”

Massaro, who won a Commonwealth silver last year with Jenny Duncalf who she beat on Sunday, is now hungry for more success after claiming three titles on the spin.

The British National Championship success followed hot on the heels of a stunning success in Cleveland a fortnight ago when England international Massaro, who plays for Blackburn’s East Lancashire club, ended the 14-month unbeaten run of world Number 1 Nicol David. That title came two months after Massaro won the Sharm El Sheikh International.

“It feels really good to have won the British Championship at last,” said Massaro.

“My England team-mates Jenny and Alison Waters have both done it – and I wanted to be a member of that club.”

Massaro’s achievements have delighted the Red Rose squash set-up and the chairman of Lancashire Squash Bernie Gill said: “We are all so proud of Laura.

“She is the first player from Lancashire, male or female, to win a National title and it is a great reward for Laura, not only for all the hard work in her career but especially over recent months when she has come on leaps and bounds.

“It is a tremendous achievement.”
