BLACKBURN Rovers were jeered off the pitch this afternoon after a dire 0-0 draw with Newcastle United.

The visitors dominated proceedings for the majority and will be disappointed not to have secured the maximum points.

Morten Gamst Pedersen and Jason Roberts replaced Junior Hoilett and Roque Santa Cruz at half time but it was still Newcastle creating the better chances.

Rovers goalkeeper tipped Fabricio Coloccini's volley over the bar on 55 minutes after Joey Barton's corner had caused panic in the host's box.

There continued to be a lack of goal mouth action as, despite dominating possession, Newcastle were unable to create too many chances themselves.

Rovers though failed to test goalkeeper Steve Harper at all after the break as the Ewood faithful grew in frustration.

An unbalanced first half display from Rovers saw them relieved to go in at the break goalless.

Roque Santa Cruz should have headed the hosts ahead on 10 minutes, after Chris Samba had headed Paul Robinson's free kick across goal. but his effort hit the post.

From there the visitors took control and should have been ahead on 15 after Samba misjudged Enrique's long ball but Peter Lovenkrands could only lob against the bar.

Rovers' midfield diamond was skewed to the left and allowed Enrique the freedom of the park as he made his dangerous runs down Michel Salgado's right.

Joey Barton and Kevin Nolan also enjoyed a lot of the ball but failed to create any real chances.
