BLACKBURN Rovers were fortunate to go in level with Newcastle at half time after a goalless first 45 minutes.
Roque Santa Cruz should have had headed the hosts ahead early on but after that, Rovers struggled to take control of the game.
Kevin Nolan hit the bar for Newcastle, as he and Joey Barton ran the show in the middle of the park.
In an uneventful first half, Rovers's shape looked unbalanced with their diamond midfield four leaving the defence exposed.
