Blackburn Hawks head coach Jared Owen hopes his side ‘put on a show’ for their fans this weekend.

Hawks have a home double-header to look forward to, with games against Sheffield Spartans today and Fife Flyers tomorrow (both at 5.45pm).

And Owen believes the loyal Blackburn Arena supporters can play a big part in the Hawks’ success.

“We’ve got very good supporters, especially at home,” said Owen.

“We get good crowds, who get behind the team and the guys want to get the right result for them.

“Every game between now and the end of the season is massive. We appreciate the support that we get and the players know it’s time to put on a performance.”

Following back-to-back defeats against the Spartans and Nottingham Lions at the end of January the town team bounced back with a 6-4 win over the Lions last weekend.

While today’s meeting with Sheffield is expected to be another close affair, Hawks are huge underdogs for tomorrow’s clash with Fife.

The Scottish side, who are top of the Northern League, have won 12 of their 13 matches, including 13-3 and 11-2 victories over the Hawks.

“They are the stand-out team in the Northern League this year,” added Owen.
