DAVID Dunn has called for calm ahead of Newcastle United’s crunch Ewood visit on Saturday – insisting ‘it won’t take much to get us on the up again’.

The Ewood Park favourite believes Blackburn Rovers have deserved more than their zero points return from the last two Premier League games as they look to avoid an unwanted hat-trick tomorrow.

Rovers haven’t lost three consecutive Premier League games for more than two years and, after defeats to Spurs and Wigan, Dunn insists there is full confidence their mini-slump can be quickly corrected.

Rovers host the Toon Army still sitting comfortably in 11th in the Premier League, level on points with the Magpies and five points clear of the drop zone.

Dunn said: “Let’s not forget, there is no crisis here.

"A couple of weeks ago we were seventh or eighth in the league. We are not worried about anything.

“Obviously we would like to have a few more points, certainly with the way we have played.

"We were always going to be a bit more open on Saturday because we were chasing the game.

“That is only natural but we will keep going and try and get something on Saturday.

"The key is to get a few more points in the bag and we will be looking upwards again very quickly.

“I don’t think we have lost three on the bounce for a couple of years so, without putting the kiss of death on it, let’s hope we can go and get something from Newcastle.

“To be fair, we firmly believe we can do.

"Although our results haven’t been great, our form has been okay and we are looking like we are playing some good stuff so we just need to tighten up.”

A thrilling 4-3 defeat at Wigan last weekend has led some to claim Steve Kean’s footballing philosophies have left Rovers too open defensively.

Dunn though does not believe their new approach has left them any more vulnerable than they were before, but admits they do need to tighten up.

“The team are disappointed with the goals we have given away,” he said.

“The conditions were not great at Wigan but it is the same for both teams so it is disappointing we didn’t get something.

“With Wednesday night as well it wasn’t our week. It puts the pressure on us to go and get three points at Newcastle.

“I thought after 30 minutes there was no way we were not going to win the game.

"Unfortunately we let them get back in the game and that was very disappointing.

“I don’t think we are conceding any more goals than we were before.

"We are looking good at the minute going forward, so perhaps we do need a bit of tightening up around the team.

“We could have done with three points to take us on the next level and to take us towards that 40 point mark.

"Unfortunately it was not to be so we have to go on Saturday and get something.”
