The greatest show on turf kicks off on Sunday night - and even the biggest sceptic of the merits of American sport should tune in an enjoy the Superbowl.

Americans throughout the world will watch the coverage of the annual jamboree between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Green Bay Packers clash in Dallas.

Trust me, this is a spectacle to behold. You don’t even need to understand the rules of the game to savour this occasion.

The players hit each other hard, the fans are right behind their players - and half-time show is as big as you can get.

So is the beard sported by Brett Keisel of Pittsburgh. Even though he has suffered a little bit with hairballs.

“I have to blame my team-mates,” said Keisel. “When I started this thing, I said that as long as we are winning games I will let it grow. So it is really their fault. The beard has taken on a whole new life.

“It helps that we are in the big dance here in Dallas, to go all the way and to do something that no one has really done.

“We are having a lot of fun. The chin-strap is fine, it holds it down tight.

“The worst parts is hairballs in my mouth from my mouth piece. I am used to it now and I have to brush it to the side and stroke it a little bit.”

Trust me, you have to see this beard to believe it.

And that is another reason to turn in to the Superbowl.
