STEVE Kean has called for his side to be more ruthless after Spurs’ smash-and-grab job ruined Mrs Desai’s big Ewood Park welcome.

The Blackburn Rovers boss insists his side did more than enough to beat Spurs last night after Peter Crouch’s fourth minute opener was enough to secure a 1-0 win for the Londoners.

A combination of missed chances, bad luck and brilliant goalkeeping from Heurelho Gomes saw Rovers’ owner Mrs Desai taste defeat on her first Ewood Park visit.

Kean though was determined to focus on the positives after watching his side control the 90 minutes for the majority.

Kean said: “If you look at the stats, we had 17 attempts and 11 on target.

"The lads would even have been disappointed with a point after the chances we had.

“Their goalkeeper has probably been their man of the match. He has made four or five great saves and Paul Robinson has made two saves.

“I think the crowd get edgy but I hope they enjoy the amount of chances and the type of football we played.

“Hopefully they enjoyed us having most of the possession.

"Even though we had 47 entries into their box, it wasn’t a case of us smashing the ball in, we crafted a lot of chances.

“We played a lot passes in behind their midfield. Maybe we just need to sharpen up and be a little more ruthless in front of goal.”

After Crouch’s early opener, Rovers dominated the clash but were unable to convert numerous clear cut opportunities.

“We were caught cold for the first goal but were totally in control for the rest of the game,” said Kean.

“At the end Chris Samba’s header looks like it is going in but it hits Jermaine Jenas and goes over.

“So they have certainly been peppered as the shots came in thick and fast.

"David Dunn does everything right and it misses by an inch. If we continue to create the chances I am sure they will go in.

“The shape of the team was good. I thought we nullified van der Vaart in the second half as I thought he was causing problems coming in.

“Maybe Junior Hoilett was a bit high and wide so we tucked him in and nullified Van der vaart completely after the break.

"I can only remember being comfortable, my heart was not in my mouth once.”

Kean revealed after the game he would meet his bosses today before they headed back to India.
