AMIR Khan believes he has silenced his critics after he overcame some huge punches to claim victory against Argentina’s Marcos Maidana.
The Bolton boxer’s punch resistance had been questioned ever since his knock-out by Breidis Prescott two years ago but he showed real character to secure a decision against Maidana and defend his WBA world title for the third time.
The 24-year-old won on points – even if the gruelling nature of the contest meant both fighters had to be taken to hospital for check-ups afterwards.
“I’m sure I’ve shut a lot of people up,” said Khan. “It was a great fight and I really enjoyed it.
“Maidana was strong. I remember hitting him with some big shots but there were times in the fight when you had to keep fully focused.
“If you’re not focused in the ring against someone like Maidana, we all know one hook can change the fight.
“There were times in the fight when I got caught. Sometimes I fight with my heart too much, not just my brain, but I’m still young.”
