I think League Two referees may have got the wrong impression of the Stanley players this season.
On Saturday, Peter Murphy became the latest in a long line of Stanley players to see red.
It was yet another weak referee who made a wrong decision and I am starting to wonder if he could have possibly been influenced by the plethora of red cards dished out by his mates.
As a neutral you could be forgiven for thinking that Stanley have become a dirty side this season given the number of times that we have been reduced to 10 men.
The fact is that we are not a rough and ready dirty team. Far from it. Yes, we may be tough in the challenge but I thought that was part of the game!
Thank goodness for Jimmy Ryan’s wonder strike, the main highlight of the weekend for me.
Stanley did create plenty of chances to increase the lead but it also has to be said that the Shrimpers tested a first rate Ian Dunbavin on more than one occasion.
Stevenage are the visitors to the Crown Ground this Saturday and I urge you to turn up and show your support for the Reds.
Jimmy Bell stated in his column last week that he was disappointed by the dwindling home support for the Reds and I have to agree with him.
While it has to be said that most fans have had enough of the off-the-field shenanigans, we should still get behind the lads on the pitch.
