WHILE Bacup’s win over Rossendale in the FA Vase on Saturday meant the end for Stags boss John Hughes, the emotions were switched completely for Brent Peters.
Bacup boss Peters’ parents live a stone’s throw from Dark Lane and he himself was a ball boy there as a child before going on to manage the Stags.
And he relished the moment of beating his club. “The game was not just about winning an FA Vase tie, the game was about Brent Peters going home,” said the emotional Peters.
“No man could ever feel prouder, not just because we beat Rossendale United but because they all repaid the faith that I placed upon them.
“In modern day football, the days of town teams such as Bacup and Rossendale having players from that town playing have gone.
“I had to sit my players down and go through the history in order to get their mind fully set and focused on just what this meant not only for the Bacup fans but for me.
“If there was ever a day I wanted them to repay that faith it was Saturday.”
They did just that in the 2-0 win and Peters added: “Words just can’t describe just how much I am proud of each and every one of them.”
