Ex-Colne professional Anwar Ali has signed for Northern League outfit Morecambe for next season.

The 22 year-old Pakistani pace bowler was expected to stay in East Lancashire with two Lancashire League sides and one from the Ribblesdale League vying for his signature.

But Ali, whose 5-22 bowling burst helped Colne win this year’s Worsley Cup, chose instead to move to the north of the county.

His agent Gary Hunt, of Crick Intro, confirmed the move yesterday and said: “It is a good move for Anwar.

"Morecambe will have one heck of a chance of winning of league.”
