SATURDAY’S home game against Gillingham can be told by way of numbers.
Seven goals for Stanley from six different scorers, five of which were out of the top drawer, while four goals for the visitors was just not good enough.
Three (at least!) is the number of Gillingham defenders that will need counselling after Terry Gornell turned them into gibbering wrecks.
Two is the number of superb penalty strikes that Phil Edwards slotted past the hapless Gills keeper and there will only ever be one John Coleman.
I thank my lucky stars every day that he is ours.
I have written many times in my column of the football on display at the Crown and stayaway fans may think it a misguided ruse to tempt them back.
Now while they may be half right, the facts do not lie and this week we played football that deserves to grace a higher level.
That said the defending by both teams was not Premier League standard, but you only have to have watched Leeds this week to see it was good enough for the Championship!
Before the match the talk was of protests to force David O’Neill to finalise John Coleman’s contract and there was some chanting at the end, but it’s hard to protest when your team has just scored seven.
For me it is imperative that the present board move quickly to secure the next 10 years of John and Jimmy at the Crown.
The last word must go to the stewards in the home end. I have witnessed a transformation in their performance, so well done to the yellow jackets.
