BOBBY Langford scored the only goal of the game at the Anchor Ground as AFC Darwen scraped a win against a Daisy Hill side who looked good for a point.
Darwen lacked a cutting edge up front with Lee and Karl Turner both missing, an injured Steve Lee on the bench while Dean Clarke started although clearly not fully fit.
Adam Chester in the Darwen goal was called in to action in the opening minute to block a shot from Gregory.
Darwen took the lead on 18 minutes when a Danny Banks’ cross was headed back across goal by Jon Leeming to Langford to score.
Clarke then planted a header against the bar three minutes later before Daisy Hill began to make their mark.
Chester had to dive full length to push away a Gregory drive, and the same player should have done better just before the break but blasted wide.
After the break, Clarke went close again and Anthony Harkness had an effort cleared off the line.
But Daisy Hill had their chances, Greenacre blasting wide and McGuinness firing straight at Chester.
Chester then produced a fine one-handed save and Gavin wasted a late chance to earn the visitors a draw.
