PETER Smith’s Clitheroe listened to the instructions of their boss as they rose to the occasion in the preliminary round on the FA Trophy on Saturday.
Smith had been keen to impress the importance of progress in the competition to his players – and they responded in style, going nap against Leek Town.
The former finalists, who play in the Evo-Stik First Division South, were never in the game as the Blues roared into action and never let up.
Lethal Mark Jackson opened the scoring on five minutes and by half-time it was 3-0 and stroll time after goals from Danny Williams and the impressive Ashley Parillion.
Williams was having a fine game and he set up Clitheroe’s fourth goal seconds after the re-start when he crossed for Alex Brees to drive home.
And the rout on the road to Wembley was completed 12 minutes from time as Joe Roberts drove home the killer fifth.
And they will now face Evo-Stik Premier Division side Burscough away in the next round.
