BURNLEY midfielder Kevin McDonald is being lined up for a loan move to get games under his belt.

The Scotland Under 21 international scored from the bench in his only appearance of the season so far in the Carling Cup second round win at Morecambe.

In nine games, the former Dundee youngster has only made the 18-man squad three times, and was pushed further down the midfield pecking order following the summer signing of Dean Marney from Hull City and the arrival of Chelsea starlet Jack Cork on a season long loan.

“He needs games. He’s finding it hard to break into that midfield, as anybody would,” said Laws.

“There’s real competition there.

“At the moment he’s finding himself in a dark area and the only way we can lighten it up a bit is to give him some games, and we’re looking to try to get him out on loan to satisfy him and to keep him fit physically and mentally.

“That’s where we are at the moment.

“We’ve had a couple of tentative enquiries about it but nothing more, nothing less.

“There’s nothing imminent, but we’re trying.”

McDonald, who made 100 league and cup appearances for Dundee before arriving at Turf Moor in June 2008, scored twice to dump Arsenal out of the Carling Cup in his first season with the Clarets.

But the 21-year-old hit the headlines for the wrong reasons last term when he left the ground after being substituted in the 6-1 home loss to Manchester City and went to the nearby KSC 110 Club while the game was still being played.

He was fined £5,000.
