Blackburn Hawks are hoping to build on last weekend’s double success and go into the early season break on a high.

The ice-hockey aces picked up their first points of the campaign last time out, beating Coventry 7-5 and Trafford Metros 3-1.

They face Trafford again today, in the English Division One, and entertain Solway Sharks at the Arena tomorrow (5.45pm), in the Northern League, before a break in the fixture calendar until October 17.

General manager Gary Rogers said: “We are going into this weekend full of confidence and feeling as though we should win every game at the moment.

“The lads have been training well, they are all very upbeat and long may it continue.

“We now have an enforced three-week break just as we are getting some momentum going.

“So we want to make sure that we go into the break on a high.”

Following last weekend’s 3-1 win, Hawks will be hoping for a repeat performance against the Metros, before another tough test against the Sharks.

Rogers is confident his charges can record successive back-to-back wins. “We had a close game against Trafford on Sunday and had to play very well to secure the points,” he added.

“Solway were Scottish champ-ions last year and have a few Canadian imports amongst their ranks.

“They will provide a stern challenge, but we are looking to win all our home games in the Northern League and then do our best on the road.”

Hawks have a few of late fitness checks to make before finalising their squad.

Aaron Davies has had an operation on his mouth and will have to be assessed, Rick Ravey is in the latter stages of his recovery from an eye injury and Chris Arnone is still struggling with a foot problem, but Rogers believes all three are in close contention to be involved.
