NELSON’S prestigious Trafalgar Trophy competition will be held over 18 holes on October 3 after last Sunday’s scheduled 36-hole event was washed out.
It will now be the final event on the 2010 Mitsushiba Northern Order of Merit calendar, following this Sunday’s 36-hole Pendle Witch fixture at Clitheroe Golf Club.
“We did everything we could to get the event played on Sunday, but the greens had too much standing water on them to allow play to be possible,” said Nelson GC competitions chairman Edward Lee.
“It was very frustrating as a great deal of hard work goes into organising an event as important as the Trafalgar Trophy.
“We are very grateful to the Order of Merit organisers for allowing us a new date. We do not want to lose the event, but daylight by eary October make it virtually impossible for us to play a 36-hole event and so we are forced to play the compettiion over one round.”
