ST John’s Hospice and Slynedales Cancer Care will be the two winners when Morecambe Car Club host their famous Illuminations road rally next month.
For the club will be supporting the two charities by donating some of the proceeds from the event, which takes place on 23-24 October.
A raffle will also be held at the start venue, the Vale of Lune Rugby Club in Lancaster.
“Morecambe Car Club wanted to give something back to the area in which we compete,” explained clerk-of-the-course Paul Mount.
“One in three of us are diagnosed with some form of cancer during their lifetime, so it’s important that they are there when needed.
“St Johns Hospice and Slynedales Cancer Care provide fantastic asstistance to both cancer sufferers and to their families.
“These organisations are funded by donations from the public and local businesses, every penny helps them to help those affected by cancer.”
The Illuminations is a famous name on the road rally calendar, and was first run in 1955 as the Eastwood Rally after local businessman Arnold Eastwood.
It rapidly became regarded as one of the best in the north-west, and was soon incorporated in the national Motoring News Championship, acknowledged as the pinnacle of the sport.
This year's rally is being backed for the first time by David Ian Skoda of Morecambe, who join regular sponsors Lune Valley Motors.
As a round of four major regional championships, the organisers are hoping for a capacity entry for the 160-mile long event, which starts and finishes at the Vale of Lune Club.
Entries forms are available from website www.morecambecarclub.co.uk, and as a non-spectator event, the only way to see the rally is by marshalling.
Volunteers should contact Cath Simpson on 07798 853765 (not after 9pm).
