Blackburn Hawks got their season up and running with back-to-back wins over the weekend.

The Hawks, who had failed to turn performances into points in their opening three fixtures, finally found their goalscoring touch.

And that resulted in a 7-5 win away at Coventry on Saturday, before they beat Trafford 3-1 at the Arena on Sunday.

General manager Gary Rogers said: “I’m very pleased with the results. It’s a positive step in the right direction.

“We have been playing well, just not converting our chances. This weekend, we did our job properly and scored 10 goals in the two games.”

Hawks headed into the Coventry clash looking for revenge, having lost 3-1 at home to their opponents just six days earlier.

Keen to make amends, the Hawks players were really fired up and got off to a great start as they took a 3-0 lead into the first break.

It was 4-2 to the loclas at the end of the sceond period and midway through the third it was 5-5.

But Hawks hit back with a couple of goals, including a stunning strike from new boy Paul Rigby to secure the points. David Meikle (two), Aaron Davies (two), Rick Hughes and Chris Arnone got the others.

That result gave the Hawks a big confidence boost ahead of Sunday’s home game against Trafford.

Again, the town team came flying out of the blocks, with Tom King getting two goals against his old club.

The Metros fought back in the second period, reducing the arrears to 2-1, but Hawks were always in control. They added a third, from Meikle, in the final period to give themselves some breathing space and the result was never in doubt.

“It was a great team effort across the entire weekend,” added Rogers. “The team really pulled together, had more confidence around the goal and are now getting the points that they deserve.”
