CRIES of Judas and a hail of boos greeted former Burnley boss Owen Coyle on his return to Turf Moor last night.
The Bolton Wanderers boss, flanked by several stewards, took the direct route to the away dug out, in stark contrast to the sprint down the touchline during his time as Clarets manager.
The usually reserved Bob Lord Stand regulars let the Scot know exactly what they thought of his decision to leave Burnley in January, unfurling Judas banners and flicking ‘V’ signs.
Security remained tight throughout with six stewards standing guard around the dug-out, with others on hand in the stand directly behind him.
Chants of “Don’t believe a word he says” and “Stand up if you hate Coyle” also rang out around Turf Moor.
There was a slightly less venomous welcome for returning fans’ favourite Robbie Blake with muted applause greeting his name during the team announcements.
He was also clapped by the home crowd as he went to take a couple of early corners.
Although it was a slightly different story mid-way through the first half when Blake’s wayward freekick drew ironic cries of “you’re not Robbie Blake”.
