Scintillating. That’s the best word I can come up with to describe the football played by Stanley on Friday night.
The Reds played some of the best football ever seen at the Crown as we extended our unbeaten start to this season’s campaign.
Lincoln are no duck eggs and Chris Sutton has splashed the cash to bring ex-Premier League stars to his highly fancied side.
The visitors should have scored at least one goal but Ian Dunbavin and the defence are getting used to their clean sheet bonuses and another shutout was cheered as much as the goals come the final whistle.
I hesitate to single any of the lads out for praise as the team all looked very impressive and good value for the win, but I must mention Terry Gornell and Sean McConville.
Sean looked like a man possessed as he chased down every ball and looked to shoot at every opportunity and, in Gornell, I believe John Coleman has once again unearthed a striker of the very highest calibre.
I attended the meeting this week held by Ilyas Khan to set out his vision for our future and I must say I was very impressed.
He wants to build a new stadium that the whole of the town can benefit from and one that all Stanley fans can be proud of.
Now I love the Crown and I have spent countless summers there helping to prepare for the coming season, but we do need a stadium fit for League Two and, as Ilyas has said, that will pay for the development and keep the club afloat until its built I fail to see an argument against it.
With John, Jimmy and Ilyas at the helm the future finally looks bright.
