BARNOLDSWICK’S first foray in to the FA Vase ended in disappointment as Maine Road ran out worthy winners.
Town were forced to field a depleted side due to injuries with Chris Brennan deputising in goal for Billy Carrington.
And it was Brennan who was the busier of the two keepers, making a string of blocks inclu-ding one excellent fingertip save to deny Rob Brocklehurst.
Town’s best first half chance fell to Bill Williams who saw his towering header crash against the crossbar.
But Maine Road took a deserved lead 10 minutes after the restart when Chris Hirst bundled the ball home.
Town’s best chance of an equaliser fell to Paul Barrett whose effort was cleared off the line in the final five minutes.
