ACCRINGTON striker Terry Gornell believes his two goals against Lincoln will be the first of many this season – and he dedicated the brace to his uncle following a heart attack.
Gornell scored twice as Stanley won 3-0 at home to Chris Sutton’s Lincoln on Friday, a result that leaves them sixth in League Two.
And the goals came with his uncle supporting him from the stands, despite suffering a heart attack just days earlier.
“My uncle had a heart attack the other week but he was all right and he was at the game, so I’d like to dedicate the two goals to him,” said Gornell.
“It was a worrying time but he came out of hospital on the Thursday and he was here on Friday to support me.
“He’ll have to come to every game now because he’s a lucky charm.”
The 20-year-old striker made 50 appearances for Tranmere after his loan at the Crown Ground but many were on the wing, to his frustration.
“If I get a run in the side playing up front, I’m confident I’ll be scoring goals,” he said.
“I’m off the mark now and the biggest thing is that first goal.
“I’ve really enjoyed being up front since I’ve been here. It plays to my strengths and suits me down to the ground.
“I knew that before I came but I didn’t really realise how much it does until I was playing here”
Stanley boss John Coleman hopes Sean McConville will be fit for Saturday’s game at Port Vale after the winger required three stitches in the foot injury that forced him off on Friday.
