HOPES of claiming three match-play titles were dashed for teacher Jane McGregor at Nelson Golf Club.
Jane qualified for the finals of the Ladies’ Briercliffe Trophy, the Ladies’ Trophy and the Ladies’ Fourball Championship and chose to play the two singles events on Finals Day.
First up was the final of the Briercliffe Trophy, the scratch event, where she was up against fourball partner Lynne Grand-field, who went on to win a close match on the first extra hole.
In the afternoon, Jane was up against ladies’ secretary Joyce Holgate in the Ladies’ Trophy Final and made up for her morning defeat by claiming victory.
Lynne and Jane will both be hoping to add another win to their collection when they meet Pam Pickles and Frances Sparks in the Ladies’ Fourball Championship.
Saturday saw five other finals contested, three of them over 36 holes.
Gordon Caygill secured a comfortable win to claim Keith Beeston’s President’s Prize.
But the other two went to the final green.
Teenager Tom Boyd beat David Wadsworth to claim John Stoney’s Captain’s Prize and Duncan Payton and Graham Driver edged out Edward Lee and Dave Bertram in the Fourball Championship.
Two other finals played on the day saw Alan Bate claim the seniors’ title by beating former captain Fred Wade and James Wright beat Curtis Clarkin to take the juniors’ prize.
