PROMISING Pleasington golfer Jack Brooks hopes to get the chance to seek advice from Nick Faldo and Rory McIlroy next week as he competes in the European final of the Faldo Series – with a place in a European Tour event on offer to the winner.
Brooks travels to Northern Ireland in good spirits after winning the Pleasington Scratch Medal for the fourth year in succession on Saturday after a final round of 65, which equalled the course record for an amateur.
And the 19-year-old is keen to pick McIlroy’s brains as he bids to follow in the world number eight’s footsteps and make it on the professional circuit.
“This is the European final after I won the UK event,” said Brooks. “Hopefully I can win it and that would mean getting an invite to one event on the European Tour, which would be a dream.
“We have a dinner where we get to meet Nick Faldo, too, and the tournament is at Lough Erne, which is the club Rory McIlroy’s attached to. Rory is not involved with this event but he’s supposed to be there practising for the Ryder Cup.
“I’d really like to speak to Rory. He’s an inspiration for a lot of golfers. My plan is to go to tour school next September and hopefully get a place on the Challenge Tour and turn professional.”
The Faldo Series is an under 21 event and fellow Pleasington golfer Brogan Townend is due to complete in the girls’ event.
Brooks, who previously won the Daily Express Under 16 Andalucia Junior Open at Valderrama in 2007, won the Pleasington Scratch Medal by four shots from Andy Westwell.
