STAR-studded Chorley stayed in pole position in the Evo-Stik League First Division North last night as they brushed aside the Clitheroe challenge at Shawbridge.

Garry Flitcroft’s men were just too good in a clash between second and first – but could never truly relax thanks to the refusal of the Blues to throw in the towel.

A bumper crowd of more than 400 turned out on a horrible night to see the clash of the derby rivals and they saw just how professional and organised Flitcroft’s team are.

The Magpies took full control thanks to two goals in three minutes.

Firstly, goal machine Jack Dorney headed home a lovely Tom Ince cross after appearing unmarked in the box with no Clitheroe man tracking his run from the right flank.

And then Mark Houghton slammed home the second on 31 minutes after Procter had saved well from Simm.

Dorney was a threat throughout but Clitheroe came back into the game more after the break with Brown going close with a header, while Louis Mayers sent a header crashing against the crossbar from six yards.

And Alan Coar also could have scored when Mark Jackson put him through, but he lost his footing and control as he tried to create the opening.
