OWEN Coyle yesterday warned his Bolton Wanderers side that the famous Turf Moor atmosphere will make his return to Burnley next week the toughest draw they could possibly have been given in the third round of the Carling Cup.
Coyle returns to Turf Moor on September 21 for the first time since he controversially quit Burnley for Bolton in January, and he is realistic that he will not receive a warm welcome from many Clarets fans.
“It was the toughest draw we could have got,” said the Scot, who will appeal Saturday’s red card that could see former Burnley loan defender Gary Cahill miss the tie.
“They have shown in the last few years in cup football that a night game under the lights at Turf Moor is the best atmosphere, and I always go back to that night against Manchester United.
"I’ve played in front of 60 or 70,000 but that was the best atmosphere I’ve ever encountered.
“I accept that next week there will be people who will be unhappy that we left.
“When you leave a club you’re always going to have to go back and I did feel it would be next year in the Premier League, because I think Burnley are equipped to come straight back up.”
