HISTORY repeated itself as Bacup fell to Bamber Bridge at the same stage of the competition and to the same scoreline as their last meeting in 2003.
However, it was a disputed departure for Brent Peters’ side. Having gone close through Lee Oldham, Luke Hargreaves, Lance Ogunyode, Bacup were just seven minutes away from forcing a replay.
But Bamber Bridge’s opened the scoring with a controversial goal Martin Crowder netted from a set piece after the referee had ordered him to take the free kick again.
Paul Lloyd added a second in the 87th minute when Bacup keeper Jon-Paul Lewis failed to clear.
