BURNLEY'S 100 per cent home start is in jeopardy after letting an early lead slip to rivals Preston North End.
Chris Iwelumo continued his Turf Moor goalscoring streak with a ninth-minute header from Ross Wallace's corner.
Keith Treacy, who was protecting the far right post, should have cleared it off the line, but instead the Irish winger turned Iwelumo's free header in off his kneecap.
But Preston were back on level terms, in controversial circumstances, as Adam Barton appeared to handle Jon Parkin's knockdown. The incident went un-noticed by referee Kevin Friend, and Barton finished well midway inside the half.
Treacy atoned for his earlier error just after the half-hour when he fired Preston in front.
The winger outwitted right back David Edgar and tucked away an excellent finish across Brian Jensen.
