THEY can rightly claim to be real all-rounders at St Bede’s High School after success in a wide range of sports.

The school has won team and individual honours at local, county and national level.

From football to swi-mming, table tennis to cricket and badminton to basketball, the Blac-kburn school certainly has had a year to remember.

In table tennis, the super Saints were town champion and county champions and finis-hed a respectable four-th place in the ESTTA national finals.

Amy Orrell was a star in the pool at the Blackburn and Darwen Schools gala, winning individual medley and 50m backstroke - setting a new town record.

Abigail Culshaw su-mmed up the school’s all-round abilities after she was selected to represent Lancashire Under 13s girls cricket.

As well as starring in cricket, where she also plays for Darwen CC and captains the school team, she was also a member of winning football and badminton teams.

Ashley Bloomfield won both the U16s singles and doubles titles in the Blackburn and Darwen Schools badminton tournament which was dominated by St Bede’s.

He beat team-mate Luke Holden in the singles final then teamed up with Joshua Burns to defeat Luke again, this time with Lewis Rourke in the doubles.

Jordan Duckworth was also a double winner, beating fellow Saint Harry Starkie in the singles before the pair won the doubles.

Freya Knowles was runner-up in the U14s singles and doubles alongside Abigail Culshaw.

In the youngest age group, it was another all-St Bede’s showdown in the singles and doubles finals.

Mitchell Boyle beat Declan Cunliffe in the singles before Declan got his revenge in the doubles with Joshua Savic who beat Mitchell and partner Harry Carter in the final.

The school also enjoyed its fair share of success in football as well, winning town and county honours.

The girls U14s were crowned Lancashire Cup winners for the first time.

Having topped their group with three wins, the girls progressed to finals day where they were crowned champions thanks to wins against Blessed Trinity (4-1) and Corpus Christi (5-0).

The year nine football team made it third time lucky having been Blackburn Schools Cup runners-up the two previous years.

The Saints beat Pleckgate 4-1 in the final thanks to a hat-trick from Liam Grimshaw and another strike from Oliver Garside-Fox.

The Year Seven side won at the first time of asking, beating Darwen Vale 2-1 in a tight final.

Jacob Briody gave St Bede’s the lead but after Vale levelled, Declan Cunliffe scored a dramatic late winner.

And to underline, St Bede’s ability to shine in a wide range of sports, the school also won the Year 7 3v3 basketball title, beating favourites Darwen Vale in the last four before defeating St Wilfrid’s in the final.
