SCHOOLS from across Blackburn battling it out for the right to represent the borough in the ASDA Kwik Cricket competition.

Teams have been taking part in three different age groups - year four/five, girls and year six mixed - in local qualifying heats.

The finals for all three of the Blackburn and Dar-wen qualifiers were held at Darwen Cricket Club.

In the girls competition, 10 teams from across the borough took part.

In the third and fourth place play-off, St Pauls finished with a total of 228 to beat St Stephens who scored 210.

In a close final, Avondale beat Brookhouse by just four runs after finishing with 248 from their alloted overs.

A total of 19 teams entered the Year Six event which was won by Audley who beat St James, Black-burn in the final.

Audley amass-ed 280 runs while St James scoring 243. In the third and fourth play/off, St Gabriels (262) beat Avondale (242).

And in the Year Four/Five event, which involved 14 schools, Lammack scored 261 to beat St Matthews, who scored 257 in a very close final. The third and fourth place play-off was also a close affair with Avondale (256) beating Hawthorns (252).

PENDLE Primary School have double the reason to celebrate after winning both the boys and girls Ribble Valley ASDA Kwik Cricket finals.

The girls beat Baxenden Primary School - the sole Hyndburn representative - in the final at Clitheroe Cricket Club.

And the boys followed up with victory at Ribbl-esdale Wanderers CC, beating St Michael and St John’s in the final.

Pendle girls bowling attacked proved to be too strong for Baxenden, restricting them to 203 then amassing 268 in their reply.

In the boys final, the Saints made a fine 261, losing just two wickets.

Pendle started poorly and needed an unlikely 38 from the final pair to win and it was Charlie Dewhurst who nicked a single off the final ball to win.

The girls event attracted six schools with nine schools taking part in the boys event.

BURNLEY School Sports Partnership hosted four ASDA Kwik cricket competitions across the borough.

Organisers were delighted by the standard of cricket on show.

More than 140 pupils took in the Year Five competition held at Burnley Cricket Club where Heasandford Primary School were crowned champions. And it was Heasandford who were also winners of the girls competition which was held at Belvedere Cricket Club.

There were two Year Six events held at Lowerhouse and Burnley Cricket Club.

Stoneyholme Primary beat St Leonard’s to win the Lowerhouse event while St John’s RC beat Casterton to take the title on the other side of town.
