TENNIS aces from across East Lancashire go for glory in the SPAR Lancashire Youth Games finals.

School teams representing boroughs across the area will take part in the finals at South Ribble Tennis Centre.

Following a series of local qualifiers, schools will turn out for Burnley, Blackburn and Darwen, Rossendale, Ribble Valley and Chorley, at the Bamber Bridge venue.

Blackburn the Redeemer will represent Blackburn with Darwen in the 14 school final.

Other local schools taking part include St Mary’s (Chorley), St James the Less (Rossendale), Pendle Prim-ary School (Ribble Valley) and St Peter’s (Burnley).

The tennis final is the last event in the hugely successful Youth Games which has run six different sports - with finals held at venues across the county.

As with previous finals, Mayors and Mayoresses from across the county will be present to cheer on their respective teams.

The SPAR Lancashire You-th Games gave children including gymnastics, tag rugby, swimming and net-ball.

In total, more than 10,000 pupils from 565 primary schools across 16 authority districts were invited to take part in district qualifiers.

“The county finals are a great opportunity for us to showcase some of the fantastic talent we have in our local schools,” said Adrian Leathert, chief executive of organisers Lancashire Sports Partner-ship. “And judging by the high standards in the qualifying rounds, the tennis finals promise to be another exciting day of competition,”

The SPAR Lancashire Disability Youth Games take place in Blackpool on Friday where 800 young-sters expected to take part.
