ACCRINGTON Stanley have decided to remain at their Preston training base next season and are baffled by Billy Kee’s claim that he did not sign for the club because of concerns over facilities.

Stanley have had a nomadic existence in recent times, with day-to-day weather conditions often having a large effect on their training plans.

The club have used the King George V playing fields and the Wilson playing fields in Accrington as well as the pitch at the Crown Ground and the Soccerdome indoor facility in Blackburn during bad conditions.

They moved to a new base at the UCLan Sports Arena in Preston last season and, although poor weather sometimes meant they switched venues, the club are happy with the venue and have decided over the summer that they will continue to train there.

Kee, though, was reluctant to join Stanley on a permanent basis this summer because of concerns of training facilities during his loan spell from Leicester last season – with the striker instead signing for Torquay.

Stanley chief executive Rob Heys said: “I was surprised Billy said that.

“Billy has obviously come from Leicester where there are state-of-the-art training facilities.

“But I think we will look to stay at UCLan two days a week and train at the ground on Fridays.

“There are three or four clubs who use those facilities, and people use it for sports science fitness tests as well.

“We go to the Soccerdome, too, and we have trained alongside clubs like Wigan and Burnley there.

“We have had bad weather over the past year, but most League Two clubs have been affected.”
